This is part of series on Nebraska's Historic Animals. These species shaped the ecology and culture of the area and were painted at 8 Nebraska State Historical Parks across Nebraska.
Prairie dogs shape prairie ecology and support members of their food chain, from hawks, to coyotes, to the black footed ferret. As one of the most important keystone species in the western plains, they had to be included in this series of historic Nebraskan animals.
